Ban on Hijab not lifted yet, says Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaih on Saturday clarified that the state government has not revoked the hijab ban yet, but a decision on it would be taken after discussions at the government level.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaih on Saturday clarified that the state government has not revoked the hijab ban yet, but a decision on it would be taken after discussions at the government level.
“We haven’t done it (revoking the hijab ban) yet. Someone asked me a question (on revoking the hijab ban), and I replied that the government is contemplating revoking it,” he told reporters here.
Replying to a query on the timeline for revoking the hijab ban, Siddaramaiah said “it will be done after discussing at the government level.”
Earlier, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said if Rahul Gandhi, Congress and INDIA alliance form a government, then Sharia will be implemented in the country.
“There is a Congress government in Karnataka. It wants to lift the hijab ban in educational institutions in the state. This is not merely the lifting of the ban on hijab, but the establishment of Sharia law in the state.
“If Rahul Gandhi, Congress and INDI alliance form the government in the country, then Islamic law will be implemented,” he told reporters here.
Wherever the Congress government is ruling, attempts have been made to establish Sharia there, Giriraj Singh told reporters here.
Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa also said Siddaramaiah’s statement shows the real intent of the Congress in Karnataka.
He said the Congress government in Karnataka is making such a statement because it has realised that it is not winning the next Lok Sabha elections, especially after the election results of five states. The Congress and INDI Alliance have lost all hope completely. “Hence the Congress government in Karnataka has stooped to this level of allowing hijab in schools and colleges,” he said.
Vijayendra said nobody from the minority demanded the wearing of hijab in educational institutions. He further said that the statement of the chief minister clearly shows utter carelessness. “You are CM for the entire state, not one religion or community.
Despite the courts having expressed concerns over this issue, Siddaramaiah’s statement is really unfortunate, he said.
