BRS Accuses Revanth Reddy Government of Planning ‘Medical Tourism’ in TIMS Hospitals

According to the BRS, the previous KCR-led government had initiated the construction of TIMS hospitals with 1,000 beds each, along with modern medical infrastructure, with the objective of providing advanced healthcare to people at affordable rates.

Hyderabad: The BRS has strongly criticised the Telangana government over its reported proposal to introduce a medical tourism model in Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospitals, alleging that the move could divert facilities meant for poor and middle-class patients towards wealthy individuals.

According to the BRS, the previous KCR-led government had initiated the construction of TIMS hospitals with 1,000 beds each, along with modern medical infrastructure, with the objective of providing advanced healthcare to people at affordable rates.

The opposition party alleged that the Congress government has been slow in completing the projects and is now planning to introduce a “medical tourism” model as the hospitals become operational.

The BRS claimed that under the proposed arrangement, 100 beds in each TIMS hospital could be reserved for affluent patients who are willing to pay higher charges for specialised medical treatment.

The party questioned the need to reserve beds in government hospitals for wealthy patients when the state already has a large number of private hospitals offering premium healthcare services.

According to the BRS, such a move could reduce the availability of affordable healthcare facilities for economically weaker sections and undermine the original objective behind establishing TIMS hospitals.

The opposition has urged the Revanth Reddy government to immediately withdraw what it described as a “nefarious plan” and ensure that government hospitals primarily serve poor and middle-class patients.

The government has not yet officially responded to the allegations or clarified the details of the reported medical tourism proposal.
