C.V. Anand Leads Race for Telangana’s Next DGP
Discussions are underway regarding the appointment of the new state police chief, with Anand, a 1992-batch IPS officer, emerging as the most likely candidate due to his seniority among the serving officers in the state. The incumbent DGP Shivdhar Reddy belongs to the 1994 batch.

Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer C.V. Anand is reportedly the frontrunner to become the next Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, as the tenure of the current DGP, Shivdhar Reddy, is set to end later this month.
Discussions are underway regarding the appointment of the new state police chief, with Anand, a 1992-batch IPS officer, emerging as the most likely candidate due to his seniority among the serving officers in the state. The incumbent DGP Shivdhar Reddy belongs to the 1994 batch.
The state government has already forwarded a panel of senior IPS officers to the Centre for consideration. The list includes C.V. Anand along with Soumya Mishra and Vinayak Prabhakar Apte from the 1994 batch, and Shikha Goel from the 1995 batch. However, based on seniority and administrative experience, the government is reportedly giving serious consideration to Anand’s appointment.
Meanwhile, the tenure of Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao is also scheduled to end later this month. Although he was originally due to retire in August last year, the Centre granted him a seven-month extension following a request from the state government.

The Revanth Reddy-led government has now written again to the Centre seeking another extension for Ramakrishna Rao, citing the implementation of key administrative exercises such as the national census and the special revision of electoral rolls.
According to government sources, considering precedents in states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, Ramakrishna Rao could receive a further extension of at least three months.
If the Centre does not grant an extension, senior IAS officer Jayesh Ranjan of the 1992 batch is considered the leading contender for the post of the next Chief Secretary. Other names being discussed include Vikas Raj, Sanjay Jaju and 1994-batch officer Sabyasachi Ghosh.
Although 1991-batch IAS officer Arvind Kumar is the senior-most officer in the cadre, his chances of becoming Chief Secretary appear slim due to ongoing cases against him and a reported lack of interest from the government.
In such a scenario, if Ramakrishna Rao does not receive an extension, Jayesh Ranjan is widely expected to take over as the next Chief Secretary of Telangana.
