In a major step towards women empowerment in Hyderabad, R V Karnan, Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, has directed officials to form 1,00,000 new Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across GHMC limits under the ‘99 Days Progress Plan’.

The directive was issued during a review meeting held on Friday at GHMC headquarters, attended by UCD Additional Commissioner Shankarayya and 30 Project Officers.
Targets Set Under 99 Days Progress Plan in Hyderabad
During the meeting, the GHMC Commissioner outlined clear targets to accelerate the Hyderabad SHG formation drive.
Key targets include:
- Each Project Officer must form 10,000 new women SHGs in their respective circles
- Each Resource Person (RP) must facilitate 250 SHGs
- A minimum of 100 SHGs must be formed in April alone
The Commissioner stressed strict adherence to timelines to ensure the success of the GHMC 99 Days Progress Plan.
Focus on Women Empowerment and Community Development in Hyderabad
The large-scale SHG formation across GHMC limits aims to:
- Strengthen women’s financial independence
- Promote community development in Hyderabad
- Encourage self-reliance among women groups
Officials were instructed to actively monitor progress and ensure that the targets are met without delay.

R V Karnan emphasized that timely execution is crucial for achieving meaningful results under the Hyderabad women SHG initiative.
The Commissioner also urged all officers and resource persons to work in coordination to meet the ambitious goal of forming 1 lakh SHGs within the GHMC jurisdiction.
