He confirmed that the Congress party intends to contest all Assembly segments within the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency and is optimistic about securing victory in the Charminar, Yakutpura, and Nampally seats.
Hyderabad: Sameer Waliullah, President of the Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC), on Friday expressed his confidence that the Congress party would win at least three seats from the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) in the coming Assembly election.
In a media statement, Sameer Waliullah shared that the Congress party has devised a new strategy for the Old City to challenge the MIM.
He confirmed that the Congress party intends to contest all Assembly segments within the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency and is optimistic about securing victory in the Charminar, Yakutpura, and Nampally seats.
He pointed out that the recent replacement of candidates in Charminar, Yakutpura, and Nampally by MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi was prompted by the fear of competition from the Congress. Sameer Waliullah stated that the Congress has effectively highlighted the MIM’s shortcomings in developing the Old City and other areas represented by its legislators. The Congress party plans to intensify its campaign efforts once all the candidates are officially declared.
Sameer Waliullah also welcomed the Congress manifesto, which includes a proposed budget of Rs 5,000 crore and a Sub-Plan for minorities.
He highlighted the Congress’s intention to provide financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to 1 lakh minority youth annually, aiming to promote the economic empowerment of minorities who have felt neglected under the BRS regime.
Additionally, Sameer Waliullah pointed out that increasing the honorarium for Imams to Rs 10,000 and Muezzins to Rs 8,000 would benefit thousands of individuals in these roles. The Congress leader noted that, for the first time, Khadims of all Dargahs would also receive a monthly honorarium of Rs 10,000.
He mentioned the Minorities Declaration, which was prepared under the leadership of former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, describing it as comprehensive and set to be unveiled soon. Sameer Waliullah further revealed plans for a separate Hyderabad Declaration, focusing on specific commitments for the development of the Old City.
Sameer Waliullah stressed that if the Congress party secures power, it will revitalize agencies such as Setwin, the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority, and the Musi River Development Board. The party’s objective is to enhance employment opportunities in the Old City of Hyderabad.
He also announced that work on the Metro Rail project in the Old City would commence within one month of the Congress party’s return to power, with the project expected to be completed within 12 months.
Sameer Waliullah emphasised that the Congress party would take these important issues to the people while showcasing the party’s accomplishments.
He expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, citing an u response from the public and the potential to make history by winning several seats in the Old City of Hyderabad.
