Creators of Tomorrow – Buildathon 2026 Grand Finale Held in Hyderabad

CVR College of Engineering emerged as the overall winner for its innovative project titled “Water Treatment Waste into Sustainable Building Solutions.” The team received a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh for their winning idea.

Hyderabad: The grand finale of Creators of Tomorrow – Buildathon 2026, a first-of-its-kind civil engineering innovation platform organised by Radha TMT, was held on Saturday evening at Shilpakala Vedika.

The event brought together some of the brightest civil engineering students from across Telangana to present sustainable and industry-relevant infrastructure solutions.

CVR College of Engineering emerged as the overall winner for its innovative project titled “Water Treatment Waste into Sustainable Building Solutions.” The team received a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh for their winning idea.

Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), Basara, secured the first runner-up position and won Rs 1 lakh, while Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTU-H) was declared the second runner-up, receiving Rs 50,000. Consolation prizes of Rs 25,000 each were awarded to Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology (SNIST), University College of Engineering Osmania University, Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology (GRIET), and VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology (VNR VJIET).

More than 100 engineering colleges and several hundred civil engineering students participated in the multi-level competition, which culminated in seven finalist teams presenting pioneering and practical ideas to address real-world infrastructure challenges.

Innovative Solutions on Display

Among the notable proposals was a preventive solution for pothole-free roads using micro-encapsulation technology with waste and used cooking oil. The solution aimed at addressing micro-cracks, preventing water penetration, and reducing the root causes of potholes — a problem responsible for thousands of accidents annually.

Students from Osmania University presented “Alga Nova,” an algae-based cement additive designed to reduce cement consumption by 2.5 percent. Meanwhile, an all-women team from GRIET introduced “Sugarcrete,” lightweight bricks made from sugarcane bagasse as a sustainable construction material.

The VNR VJIET team proposed algae-based biodegradable paints claimed to be 40 percent cheaper than conventional alternatives. SNIST students showcased Geopolymer Concrete, a 100 percent cement-free solution capable of reducing carbon emissions by 70–80 percent. RGUKT students presented Green Concrete reinforced with natural bamboo fibre to minimise cracks and enhance structural strength.

Collector Harichandana’s Call for Sustainable Innovation

Hyderabad District Collector Harichandana Dasari graced the occasion as Chief Guest and addressed more than 1,000 students. She lauded the participants for identifying real-life infrastructure challenges and proposing scalable solutions.

Describing the initiative as the need of the hour, she emphasised stronger industry–academia collaboration and urged students to build a better, more liveable world.

“Big buildings are not great buildings; buildings that are liveable are great,” she remarked, encouraging young engineers to pursue innovation with persistence until commercialisation.

Industry Commitment to Nation-Building

Sunil Saraf, Chairman of Radha TMT, said the initiative was conceptualised to celebrate young engineering talent and foster innovation in sustainable infrastructure. He highlighted that civil engineering forms the backbone of national development.

Akshat Saraf, Director of Radha TMT, added that centred on the theme “Green & Sustainable Construction for a Greener Future,” the Buildathon aimed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world industry requirements.

The competition offered over Rs 5 lakh in cash prizes, along with internships, industry-recognised certifications, factory visits, ISO training exposure, and direct interaction with leading construction professionals.

With the successful conclusion of Buildathon 2026, Radha TMT reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing future-ready civil engineers and promoting sustainable construction practices that contribute responsibly to India’s infrastructure growth.
