The incident took place during the weekly market in the Kothaguda area. Farmers Saria, Mohan, and Surender from Bhupathipet village in Gudur mandal had brought their produce for sale, hoping to recover at least their cultivation and transportation costs. However, with no buyers and prices plunging sharply, they were unable even to cover transport expenses.
Protest Against Price Crash
In a move reflecting their deep distress, the farmers decided to distribute the tomatoes instead of taking them back home or dumping them on the roads. Nearly one tractor trolley load — approximately 1,200 kg — was handed out to the public free of charge.
As word spread, a large crowd gathered at the market, with people collecting tomatoes in bags and cloth bundles.

Farmers Seek Government Support
The farmers recalled that tomato prices had once crossed ₹100 per kilogram, but have now fallen drastically. They said they had taken loans and invested significant effort in cultivating the crop, only to face severe losses due to market indifference.
Urging the government to intervene, the farmers demanded immediate compensation and appropriate support measures. They warned that continued price crashes without relief could push distressed farmers toward extreme steps, including suicide.
