Hyderabad: Doctors at Kamineni Hospitals, LB Nagar, have stressed the importance of early awareness and timely diagnosis to prevent kidney diseases, marking World Kidney Day, which is observed globally on the second Thursday of March every year.
Medical experts noted that nearly one in ten people worldwide suffer from kidney-related ailments. In India, however, a lack of awareness often leads to delayed diagnosis, with many patients identifying the disease only after it has reached an advanced stage. Doctors also warned that kidney-related issues are increasingly being detected among younger individuals.
This year’s World Kidney Day theme, “Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet,” highlights the importance of preventive healthcare and greater public awareness about kidney health.
To mark the occasion, Kamineni Hospitals organised an awareness programme where doctors from various departments discussed preventive measures, early screening, and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of kidney diseases.
As part of the event, around 30 patients who had previously undergone dialysis treatment or kidney transplantation at the hospital were invited to share their inspiring experiences. Many of them spoke about overcoming the challenges of kidney disease and returning to normal, successful lives after treatment.
The hospital management also honoured several patients for their courage and resilience. Special certificates titled “Youngest Fighter” were presented to individuals who faced kidney-related challenges at a young age, while “Iron Will” certificates were awarded to senior patients who demonstrated exceptional determination in managing their health and continuing active lives.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A. Santosh Kumar, Senior Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician at Kamineni Hospitals, emphasised the importance of early screening and timely medical intervention. He advised individuals experiencing symptoms related to kidney problems to undergo necessary tests without delay.

He also highlighted that conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes can significantly increase the risk of kidney disease if not properly managed. “People should not panic about dialysis or kidney transplantation. With modern medical treatments, patients can continue to lead healthy and productive lives,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. V. Suryaprakash, Director of Urology and Senior Consultant Urologist at Kamineni Hospitals, stressed that adequate hydration is one of the simplest ways to maintain kidney health. He recommended drinking two to three litres of water daily to help flush out toxins and reduce the risk of kidney stone formation.
Dr. Suryaprakash also pointed out that advanced technologies, including the Da Vinci robotic surgical system, have made it possible to perform highly precise and minimally invasive procedures to treat complex kidney stones and tumours. These modern surgical techniques cause minimal pain and allow patients to resume their normal activities quickly.
The programme was attended by Dr. Anjaiah, Medical Superintendent; Dr. V. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Senior Consultant Urologist and Transplant Surgeon; Dr. Saikanth Kumar, Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician; Dr. Sandeep, Consultant Urologist, along with hospital staff and patients.
