Locals allege that polluted water supply in Nagole areas has put the health of residents at risk, with complaints of diarrhoea, fever, and stomach infections rising sharply over the past few days.
Water Quality Worsened Over the Last Month
Residents said the colour of the drinking water has changed over the last one month, but the situation has worsened significantly in the last four days. Despite repeated complaints to authorities, locals claim there was no proper response, forcing many families to continue using unsafe water.
In one reported case, both husband and wife fell ill after drinking the water. While the husband has recovered, the wife remains unwell, highlighting the seriousness of the issue.
Similar Issue Faced Last Year
People living in the affected colonies recalled that a similar contaminated water problem occurred last year. They fear that if the issue is ignored again, the situation could turn more dangerous, especially during the current season.
Locals also pointed out that ongoing sewerage works in the area have led to polluted water overflowing onto roads, creating foul smells and increasing the risk of mosquitoes and flies, further threatening public health.
Families Forced to Buy Drinking Water
Many families without borewells are facing severe hardship. Residents said they are buying water cans from outside to meet daily needs such as drinking and cooking.
- Clean drinking water unavailable at home
- Long waiting hours for limited water supply
- Extra financial burden due to buying water cans
Water Board Responds
Officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) said they initially suspected a leakage in local connections but later identified a problem in the main pipeline.
According to officials:
- Pipeline replacement work is currently underway
- Water supply will be restored only after quality checks
- Supply will resume once water is declared safe
Demand for Permanent Solution and Medical Support
Despite assurances, locals are demanding a permanent solution to the recurring problem. They said children and elderly people are the worst affected, often forced to wait for hours for water, even during emergencies.
Residents have urged authorities to:
- Provide clean drinking water through tankers
- Set up temporary medical camps
- Conduct health check-ups in affected colonies
The contaminated drinking water issue in Nagole has once again exposed gaps in civic infrastructure. Residents hope that swift and sustained action will prevent further illnesses and ensure safe water supply in Sri Lakshmi Nagar, Srinivas Nagar, and Vishalandhra Colony.
