Hyderabad: A couple from Telangana’s Nalgonda district has won widespread appreciation after organizing a unique traditional and eco-friendly wedding, setting an inspiring example for society.
The wedding took place in Tirumalagiri Sagar mandal of the Nagarjunasagar constituency. What made the ceremony special was its complete focus on sustainability. From the wedding décor to the food served to guests, the event was organized without the use of plastic or chemical-based materials.
The bride, Meghna, an engineer who is currently preparing for the Civil Services, decided that her wedding should reflect simplicity, tradition and respect for nature rather than modern extravagance. She discussed the idea with her groom Kotlya Reddy and both families, who readily supported the concept.
Instead of artificial decorations, the wedding pavilion was beautifully adorned with natural materials such as coconut leaves, palm branches and traditional mango-leaf torans, creating a vibrant yet environmentally friendly atmosphere.

The eco-friendly approach extended beyond the decorations. The bride, groom and their family members wore handwoven traditional handloom garments. Guests were served meals prepared using organically grown produce rather than fast food or foreign cuisines.
The menu included traditional rice varieties such as Basmati, Mysore Mallika and Navara, along with authentic Telangana dishes like jowar roti, gutka, pachhi pulusu and jackfruit biryani. Traditional sweets such as sakinalu and bhakshalu were also served.
Speaking on the occasion, Meghna said that large sums of money are often spent on lavish wedding displays, which generate huge amounts of plastic waste that harm the environment and animals. She said she was inspired by the teachings of noted environmentalist Suresh Gupta and therefore chose to have an organic wedding.
Groom Kotlya Reddy also supported the idea, saying that instead of spending heavily on destination weddings, it is better to encourage local farmers and artisans.
At a time when plastic pollution has become a global concern, this couple from Nalgonda has shown that returning to simplicity and traditional practices can help protect the environment while preserving cultural heritage.
