Egypt presents ‘Order of the Nile’ award to Modi


Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presented with the prestigious ‘Order of the Nile’ by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt on Sunday, marking the highest state honor bestowed upon him by the country.

During his visit to Cairo, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was granted the ‘Order of the Nile’ award by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The ‘Order of the Nile’ holds the distinction of being Egypt’s highest state honor. This visit to Egypt, spanning two days, marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister in the past 26 years and aims to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi accepted the invitation from Egyptian President El-Sisi to visit Egypt. Upon arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who greeted him with an embrace. The ceremony included a formal welcome and a Guard of Honor for Prime Minister Modi. Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi tweeted upon landing in Cairo, saying, “I am confident this visit will strengthen India’s ties with Egypt…I thank Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly for the special gesture of welcoming me at the airport. May India-Egypt ties flourish and benefit the people of our nations.”

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi held discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on fostering a strategic partnership between the two nations. Additionally, on Sunday, he visited the Heliopolis War Grave cemetery to pay homage to the Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives fighting for Egypt during the First World War. Prime Minister Modi paid his respects by offering flowers and signing the visitor’s book at the cemetery. He also had the opportunity to engage with the Indian diaspora residing in Egypt.
