Former IAS Officer Jannat Hussain Passes Away, Funeral Tomorrow

Former IAS officer and ex-Chief Information Commissioner of United Andhra Pradesh, Jannat Hussain (73), passed away on Friday in Sullurupeta, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh.

Having served as an IAS officer in the cadre of United Andhra Pradesh since 1977, Jannat Hussain had been battling Alzheimer’s disease for some time.

He resided in Sullurupeta with his second son, Niyaz. His demise occurred early this morning. Subsequently, his family brought his body to Hyderabad for burial at Kundan Bagh residence.

Jannat Hussain is survived by his wife, a daughter, and two sons. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Jannat Hussain joined the Civil Services successfully in 1977 and was allotted to the Andhra Pradesh cadre.

During his 32-year bureaucratic career, Jannat Hussain was known for his soft-spoken demeanor and affable nature. He served in various senior positions in United Andhra Pradesh and made significant contributions.

He served as the Collector of Nellore district and also worked as the Agricultural Commissioner, Rural Development Commissioner, Commissioner of GHMC, Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare, and Secretary of the Department of Energy.

He was notably known as the Principal Secretary to the then Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who played a pivotal role in introducing free electricity to the agricultural sector.

Jannat Hussain was present at the stage when Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy signed the first file of free electricity for farmers during a memorable event held at LB Stadium in Hyderabad in 2004. Later, he was appointed as the Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister.

In 2010, he was nominated for the position of Chief Information Commissioner of United AP.

Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed his condolences on Jannat Hussain’s demise.

He expressed sorrow over Jannat Hussain’s demise and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Condolences and tributes are pouring in for the former bureaucrat, and it is expected that his funeral will take place on Saturday.
