Telangana Cabinet Considers Free Breakfast Scheme for All Government School Students: Bhatti Vikramarka

Telangana Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka said the Cabinet is considering a free breakfast scheme for all government school students, following a pilot launched in the Chief Minister’s constituency.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is seriously considering introducing a free breakfast scheme for all government school students, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said on Friday. He clarified that the proposal is under active discussion in the Cabinet and will be implemented once the state’s financial situation becomes favourable, with the support of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Pilot Breakfast Scheme Already Underway

Speaking at a public meeting to mark the 150th anniversary of Mogiligidda High School in Mogiligidda, Rangareddy district, Bhatti Vikramarka said the free breakfast scheme is currently being implemented on a pilot basis in the Chief Minister’s constituency.

  • The government’s intent is firm, he said
  • If resources are mobilised, the scheme will be extended to all government schools
  • The focus is on addressing nutritional deficiencies among children during their growing years

Nutrition Key to Child Development

The Deputy Chief Minister stressed that lack of proper nutrition affects children’s physical and mental development. Providing breakfast in schools, he said, would help students learn better, stay healthy, and attend school regularly.

Vision of a Common School System

Bhatti Vikramarka highlighted the importance of a common school system, saying it helps society grow like one united family.

  • Children studying together from a young age develop social harmony
  • It promotes a mindset free from discrimination based on caste, religion, or economic status
  • Education plays a key role in building a constructive and inclusive society

Young India Integrated Residential Schools

Explaining the government’s long-term education vision, he said Telangana is building Young India Integrated Residential Schools on an unprecedented scale.

Key details:

  • 25 acres per school
  • ₹200 crore budget for each school
  • Construction underway in 100 constituencies simultaneously
  • Total investment of ₹20,000 crore

Bhatti Vikramarka said this initiative is aimed at creating world-class educational infrastructure across the state.

Focus on Human Resources and Skill Development

The Deputy Chief Minister said Telangana can compete globally only by developing strong human resources.

  • Free education and healthcare are the government’s top priorities
  • ITIs, which were neglected earlier, are now being modernised
  • Advanced machinery, industry experts, and job-oriented curricula are being introduced
  • ITIs in every constituency are being upgraded into Advanced Technology Centres

Development Works at Mogiligidda School

Bhatti Vikramarka recalled that when school authorities invited the Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy visited Mogiligidda High School in January last year and sanctioned ₹10 crore for development works, which are now progressing rapidly.

The proposed free breakfast scheme for government school students reflects the Telangana government’s growing focus on nutrition, education, and equal opportunities, with a final decision expected once financial conditions improve.
