₹22 Crore Mall Remained Unused Under Previous Government
The seven-storey mall, which includes two basement levels and a total built-up area of 1.65 lakh square feet, was constructed during the previous Congress regime with an investment of ₹22 crore by the Waqf Board. However, under the BRS Government, the project remained incomplete and unused, resulting in neglect and infrastructure decay.

Moral Safeguards to Remain in New Tender Process
Shabbir Ali, who had overseen the project during his tenure as a minister, emphasized that the mall was designed to be a revenue-generating asset for the Waqf Board. He recalled how the Congress Government had even acquired two additional properties near Haj House to strengthen minority welfare and Waqf development.
Although global tenders were first floated in 2017, certain restrictions — such as a ban on alcohol, illegal activities, and a mandatory closure of two floors during Haj season — had delayed the leasing process. The officials have now decided to reissue tenders with the same ethical conditions intact.
Haj Arrangements Reviewed Ahead of May 16 Flag-Off
The meeting also reviewed arrangements for the upcoming Haj pilgrimage. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to flag off the first batch of Haj pilgrims from Haj House on May 16. Instructions were given to ensure proper accommodation, transport, and logistical support for pilgrims.
Key attendees included Government Secretary Tafseer Iqbal, Waqf Board CEO Md Asadullah, and several senior officials.

Traditional Muharram Elephant Issue Under Review
The meeting addressed the long-standing issue of the absence of an elephant for the Muharram Juloos, a tradition once upheld by the Nizam Trust. The elephant, previously housed at the Hyderabad Zoo, passed away, and no replacement has since been provided.
The matter is currently under discussion with the Forest Department, Zoo authorities, and wildlife officials, with the possibility of government intervention or procurement of a new elephant being explored. The Waqf CEO has been directed to convene a dedicated meeting on the matter.
