From Nizam’s Economic Vision to Musi Rejuvenation: Revanth Reddy Charts a New Future for Hyderabad

He further noted that the restoration of Rukunuddaula Lake has already improved the environment and quality of life in the Old City, demonstrating how large-scale restoration projects can benefit residents across the region.

Hyderabad: A. Revanth Reddy on Friday praised the historic economic vision of Mir Osman Ali Khan, stating that the development planned around the iconic Charminar laid the foundation for the urban and commercial growth of Hyderabad.

Highlighting the historical and cultural importance of the city, the Chief Minister said the confluence of the Musi River and the Esi River was selected as the site for erecting the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. He described the location as symbolic, representing the meeting of history, culture, and the ideals that shaped the nation.

Revanth Reddy said the state government is committed to resolving long-standing issues affecting people living along the Musi River, particularly residents of Nalgonda District who have been facing severe problems due to fluoride contamination and pollution in the river. He emphasized that providing relief from fluoride-affected water and eliminating the foul pollution of the Musi is both a public health priority and a moral responsibility.

The Chief Minister stressed that the history of Hyderabad should never be compromised for political interests. He noted that the Old City has faced decades of neglect, pointing out that roads constructed during the Nizam’s era are still serving the area, reflecting the lack of modern infrastructure upgrades over the years.

However, he said residents are now cooperating with the government’s development initiatives, including road widening projects. Plans are also underway to construct modern cable bridges and elevated corridors to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the Old City.

Speaking about the government’s plans, Revanth Reddy said the Musi Rejuvenation Project will transform the river into a major corridor for sustainable development, environmental restoration, tourism, and economic growth. He described the project as an initiative that will create a historic, cultural, and economic growth corridor for Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister also urged opposition parties to extend their support for the project, stating that the rejuvenation of the Musi River is a collective responsibility.

He further noted that the restoration of Rukunuddaula Lake has already improved the environment and quality of life in the Old City, demonstrating how large-scale restoration projects can benefit residents across the region.
