Hazrat Syed Mohammad Nizami, the Gaddi Nasheen of the revered Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya R.A. (Mahboob-e-Ilahi), passed away on Saturday, leaving the Sufi fraternity and devotees across the country in deep mourning.

A prominent spiritual figure, Syed Mohammad Nizami was known for exemplifying the teachings of Tasawwuf through his life and conduct. As a custodian of centuries-old Sufi traditions, he worked to preserve the inclusive ethos of India’s khanqah culture, which emphasises love, humility and service to humanity.

Spiritual scholars and followers described him as a living embodiment of the teachings of the aslaaf, whose guidance extended beyond religious boundaries and inspired people from all walks of life. His demise is being seen as a major loss to the spiritual heritage of the country and to the network of khanqahs that have historically played a vital role in promoting communal harmony.

Messages of condolence poured in from religious leaders, scholars and devotees, who remembered him as a towering Sufi personality committed to peace and spiritual discipline.

Funeral rites are expected to be held at the Nizamuddin Dargah complex, where a large gathering of devotees is anticipated to pay their last respects.
