GHMC Reorganisation Decision Likely by February, Says Minister Ponnam Prabhakar

Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said a clear decision on GHMC reorganisation will be announced by February 10 as the civic body’s term ends.

A clear decision on the reorganisation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is expected by February 10, Hyderabad district in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced on Wednesday. The Minister said there is no need for confusion or speculation regarding the division of GHMC, as the government is preparing to take a final call soon.

The statement comes as the tenure of the GHMC governing body ends on February 10, making the reorganisation process a key administrative priority for the Telangana government.

Meeting Held at GHMC Headquarters

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar held a detailed review meeting at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) headquarters along with:

  • GHMC Mayor
  • Deputy Mayor
  • GHMC Commissioner
  • Zonal Commissioners
  • Circle Officers

The Minister provided guidance to officials on administrative preparedness ahead of the proposed reorganisation.

GHMC Structure: Zones, Circles, and Divisions

Referring to the administrative structure, the Minister highlighted plans related to:

  • 12 zones
  • 60 circles
  • 300 divisions across the Hyderabad metropolitan area

He said officials at the zonal and circle levels will now carry complete responsibility for resolving public issues.

Focus on Civic Services and Accountability

Ponnam Prabhakar cautioned officials to be ready to face increased public scrutiny on day-to-day civic problems, including:

  • Sanitation
  • Electricity supply
  • Drinking water
  • Basic civic amenities

He stressed that citizens are becoming more aware and will question officials on every issue.

Commissioner to Ensure Effective Zonal Administration

The Minister said the GHMC Commissioner will play a crucial role in ensuring that officials work efficiently at the zonal level. He underlined that accountability and responsiveness must improve as Hyderabad continues to grow.

With the GHMC term ending soon, the government’s upcoming decision on reorganisation is expected to shape the future civic administration of Hyderabad.
