GHMC to Impose On-the-Spot Fine for Littering and Open Urination in Hyderabad
GHMC has started a special cleanliness drive in Hyderabad and will impose on-the-spot fines for littering and open urination across 300 divisions from today.

Hyderabad: In a strong move to improve public hygiene, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced that on-the-spot fines will be imposed for littering on roads and urinating in public places. The action comes as part of a special cleanliness drive launched across Hyderabad from today.

Special Cleanliness Drive Begins Across 300 Divisions
GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan has directed officials to strictly enforce garbage removal and sanitation rules following growing concerns over unhygienic conditions in public places.
As part of the drive:
- Cleaning operations will be carried out in 300 GHMC divisions
- The drive will start daily at 6:30 am
- Garbage, construction debris, and other waste will be cleared from:
- Colonies and hamlets
- Main roads and junctions
- Bridges and foot over bridges
- Dividers and central medians
- Ponds, nullahs, footpaths, and parks
Focus on Public Hygiene and Enforcement
Officials will also remove garbage accumulated near:
- Electrical transformers
- Electric poles
- Public utility areas
Strict enforcement teams will monitor violations, and spot fines will be issued immediately to those found littering or urinating in the open.
Awareness, E-Waste Collection, and Green Waste Management
Along with enforcement, GHMC is focusing on public awareness and participation through:
- Sensitization programmes in schools and residential communities
- E-waste collection and management
- Reuse and proper disposal of green waste
Commissioner Karnan appealed to citizens to actively support the cleanliness initiative and help keep Hyderabad clean.
Citizens Urged to Cooperate
GHMC officials have stressed that public cooperation is key to the success of the drive. A similar large-scale cleanliness drive was conducted last month in Baldia, yielding positive results.
The Hyderabad cleanliness drive with spot fines aims to ensure cleaner roads, healthier surroundings, and improved quality of life for residents across the city.
