GHMC urged to ensure obstruction-free footpaths

Forum for Good Governance wrote a letter to GHMC Commissioner D Ronald Ross, IAS, and requested him to facilitate obstruction-free Footpaths for pedestrians.

Hyderabad: Soma Srinivas Reddy, Secretary Forum for Good Governance (FGG) wrote a letter to GHMC Commissioner D Ronald Rose, IAS, and requested him to facilitate obstruction-free Footpaths for pedestrians.

Challenges with Footpath Usage

He said while the GHMC has made commendable efforts to create footpaths throughout the city, these efforts often fall short practically. Footpaths have become occupied by small traders selling various goods, shopkeepers parking their vehicles, inconveniently placed transformers, and decorative elements like flowerpots and avenue plantations that disrupt pedestrian pathways.

Recommendation for Unobstructed Footpaths

Pedestrians, for short-distance travel, prefer using these footpaths, but obstructions force them onto the road, raising safety concerns. The Forum for Good Governance recommends facilitating obstruction-free footpaths for pedestrians, ensuring minimal impact on vehicular traffic, he added.

Improving Pedestrian Safety

“Therefore, we suggest installing traffic signals to ensure safe road crossings at intersections between footpaths and smaller roads. We appreciate your attention to this matter and anticipate improvements to pedestrian infrastructure that will enhance the well-being of Hyderabad’s residents.”
