Hyd will not face scarcity of drinking water in next 100 years: KTR

KTR along with his cabinet colleagues, laid foundation stone for Intake well and pumping house at Sunkisala at Peddavura in Nalgonda district on Saturday.

Nalgonda: Municipal and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said the State government has designed the drinking water supply schemes to meet the requirements of Hyderabad for the next 100 years and it would ensure that the city wouldn’t  face any scarcity of drinking water supply even if there was a drought for five consecutive years.

KTR along with his colleagues Sabita Indra Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Jagadish Reddy, Mahmood Ali and Srinivas Goud laid a foundation stone for Intake well and pumping house at Sunkisala at Peddavura in Nalgonda district on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister KTR said that the right now, drinking water is being supplied to Hyderabad drawing from Godavari and Krishna rivers and the present Sunkisala systems has been designed in a manner with an alternative choice to draw drinking water from an another scheme, if a system failed due to any reason.

The Minister said the Chief Minister is committed to develop Hyderabad as a global city and the Intake well at Sunkisala was designed to cater to drinking water needs of Hyderabad up to 2077.

“The most developing city in India is now Hyderabad and it has become a big asset for not only for Telangana, but also for the entire country.

All cities have some disadvantage factors, but Hyderabad has a full of advantages, including geographical and environmental to emerge as top city in the country”, Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said.

Presently, Hyderabad needs 37 TMCs of water. It has been estimated that drinking water requirement would be around 77 TMCs by 2077.

The proposed project at Sunkisala has been designed at the cost of Rs.1450.crore, ensuring that it will meet the needs of Hyderabad upto next hundred years, KTR pointed out.

The Minister said Hyderabad is going to emerge as the second biggest city in the country in 15 years after New Delhi. The city stood in fourth place in air traffic in the country by surpassing Chennai and Banglore.

The Chief Minister has also planned a 159 km long main ring with 3.4 meters dia meter pipe to provide irrigation facility to the areas and industries to come up upto Regional Ring Road, he added.
