Hyderabad City Police Organizes Cyber Crimes Awareness Session on ‘Cyber Jagrookta Diwas’

Hyderabad: In observance of ‘Cyber Jagarookta Diwas’ on the first Wednesday of every month, the Cyber Crime Police Station of Hyderabad City Police orchestrated an extensive Cyber Crimes Awareness Session at FIITJEE College, Saifabad.
This initiative, part of the ongoing efforts to educate and empower the community against the escalating threats of cybercrime, specifically targeted students.
The session was conducted under the guidance of T Vinay Kumar, Sub-Inspector of Police, and the direct supervision of Dy. Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crimes Ms K Shilpavalli, along with Asst. Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crimes Shiva Maruthi, garnered positive responses from attendees, a police statement said.
The session illuminated the essential risks associated with social networking sites. Attendees received demonstrations on best practices and cyber hygiene, focusing on secure password management, recognizing phishing attempts, and safeguarding personal information online.
Participants were educated on various aspects of electronic payment security, covering types of frauds and their prevention. The interactive webinar session discussed real-life incidents of cybercrime, including phishing, vishing, juice jacking, skimming, UPI frauds, and unauthorized remote accesses. Awareness was disseminated on protecting oneself from fraud while maximizing the benefits of electronic payments.
Insights into common types of investment frauds circulating online, such as Ponzi schemes, pump-and-dump schemes, and cryptocurrency scams, were provided. Participants learned how to identify red flags and avoid falling victim to deceptive practices.
Representatives from the Cyber Crime Police Station shared insights into current cyber threats and the role of law enforcement in combating online criminal activities. The session also covered the ways to report cybercrime through the National Helpline number 1930 and Cybercrime.gov.in. Attendees engaged in a Q&A session with police officers.
Hyderabad City Police underscored the significance of community collaboration in countering cyber threats and reiterated their commitment to creating a safer community through proactive education and engagement initiatives.
The session concluded with plans for future sessions and workshops to address emerging challenges in the realm of cybercrime.
