New Year Drunk Driving Crackdown: 270 Offenders Sent to Jail in Hyderabad

Hyderabad Traffic Police have sent 270 drunk driving offenders to jail following special enforcement drives conducted during New Year 2026 celebrations.

In a strong message against reckless driving, the Hyderabad Traffic Police have so far sent 270 drunk driving offenders to jail following strict enforcement and court proceedings linked to New Year 2026 celebrations.

The special enforcement drives were conducted across Hyderabad from December 24, 2025, to December 31, 2025, with the primary aim of ensuring road safety and preventing accidents during the festive season.

Special Drives Conducted Across the City

During the New Year period, traffic police teams intensified checks at key junctions and accident-prone areas. Motorists were screened using breath analysers, and cases were booked against those found driving under the influence of alcohol.

Due to strict policing and speedy legal action:

  • 270 offenders were convicted by Hyderabad courts
  • All convicted persons were awarded imprisonment and sent to jail
  • No leniency was shown in drunk driving cases

Departments and Educational Institutions to Be Informed

As part of further action, the Traffic Police have started sending official letters to:

  • Government and private departments
  • Educational institutions

These letters request the concerned authorities to take necessary disciplinary action against employees or students convicted in drunk driving cases.

Drunk Driving a Serious Threat to Public Safety

The Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offence and poses a grave risk not only to the driver but also to pedestrians and other road users.

Officials warned that:

Public Urged to Follow Traffic Rules
