The Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a two-day special drive against drunk driving on January 23 and 24, 2026, booking a total of 399 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol. Officials said the drive reflects the department’s zero-tolerance policy on drunk and drive violations, adding that such special checks will continue across Hyderabad.
Vehicle-Wise Breakdown of Drunk Driving Cases
Out of the 399 cases booked during the special drive:
- 321 were two-wheeler riders
- 31 were three-wheeler drivers
- 47 were four-wheelers and other vehicles
Police noted that two-wheeler riders formed the majority of offenders caught during the checks.
Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) Levels Recorded
The Traffic Police also released details of BAC levels recorded among the offenders:
- 30–50 mg: 74 cases
- 51–100 mg: 156 cases
- 101–150 mg: 91 cases
- 151–200 mg: 43 cases
- 201–250 mg: 17 cases
- 251–300 mg: 8 cases
- Above 300 mg: 10 cases
Officials said many motorists were found with dangerously high BAC levels, posing a serious risk to themselves and others on the road.
Zero Tolerance on Drunk Driving: Police
The Hyderabad Traffic Police made it clear that there will be no relaxation for drunk driving offences. Authorities urged commuters to:
- Avoid driving after consuming alcohol
- Use public transport or designated drivers
- Cooperate with police during traffic checks
The department stressed that strict enforcement will continue in the interest of public safety.
