- Steps were discussed to ensure direct flow of rainwater into lakes through feeder channels
Plan to Divert Floodwater Directly into Lakes
Key decisions taken:
- Floodwater from Borabanda Basti and NRR Puram will be redirected
- Water will be routed through inlets into Sunnam Cheruvu
- Sewage water will be diverted separately through pipelines
- Only rainwater will flow into lakes during heavy rainfall
This system aims to reduce mixing of sewage and floodwater.
Focus on Canal Connectivity
Officials stressed on improving:
- Linking of flood canals to lake inlets
- Expansion of drainage channels for smooth water flow
- Strengthening outlet systems to release excess water from lakes
They also reviewed road expansion works under high-tension lines in Madhapur–Borabanda area.
Tammidikunta Lake Flood Solution
Special focus was given to Tammidikunta lake flood issues:
- Areas like Kondapur and IT Hub face waterlogging during heavy rains
- Floodwater often affects Shilparamam and Metal Charminar surroundings
New Measures Planned
- Construction and use of dedicated inlets to direct floodwater into Tammidikunta
- Improving canal connectivity so water flows directly into the lake
- Possible development of drainage systems under SNDP project
Officials believe these steps will permanently solve flooding issues in the area.
Encroachment Removal and Lake Expansion
The discussion also covered:
- Removal of encroachments around Sunnam Cheruvu and Tammidikunta
- Plans for lake expansion and restoration
- Ensuring long-term urban flood control
The Hyderabad flood management plan by HYDRAA to connect canals with Sunnam Cheruvu and Tammidikunta lakes marks a crucial step toward preventing waterlogging in key areas like Madhapur and Kondapur.
