Why the Park Land Matters
Officials explained that:

This is why HYDRAA has intensified efforts to protect park lands across Hyderabad.
Encroachment Case in Babanagar Colony, Uppal
According to officials, a layout with 183 plots was formed in Babanagar Colony in 1980, where 3,000 square yards were officially reserved for a park. The land functioned as a park until 1999, and boundaries were fixed with fencing by Kapra Circle authorities.
Later developments revealed:
- Plot numbers increased from 183 to 189
- The 3,000 sq yards park was split into six plots of 500 sq yards each
- Some of these plots were allegedly sold illegally
Residents complained that parts of the park and even adjacent road land were encroached upon and converted into smaller plots for sale.
HYDRAA Steps in After Public Complaint
Following complaints raised during HYDRAA Prajavani, the matter was examined on the ground.
On the instructions of HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, teams from:
- GHMC
- Revenue Department
- HYDRAA officials
conducted a joint inspection and confirmed that 3,000 sq yards was legally earmarked as park land.
Fencing and Boards Installed
While some constructions had already come up earlier, HYDRAA:
- Protected the remaining 2,000 sq yards
- Installed strong fencing
- Put up HYDRAA boards declaring it as park land
This ensured the land will remain reserved for public use.
Action in Nacharam’s Karthikeya Nagar Too
HYDRAA also protected another 5,000 square yards of park and open spaces in Karthikeya Nagar, Nacharam village, Uppal mandal. Multiple open spaces and park-designated areas were secured on the same day.
