HYDRAA Steps in to Revive 450-Year-Old Katora House at Golconda Fort, Assures Full Support

He stated that protecting such ancient water bodies is crucial and expressed happiness that Nirman NGO has stepped forward to safeguard this 450-year-old heritage water body.
HYDRAA Commissioner Conducts Field-Level Inspection
On Wednesday, the HYDRAA Commissioner personally visited the Katora House water tank, which is under the conservation of the Central Archaeology Department.
During the inspection, the Commissioner reviewed the current condition of the water body, discussed restoration requirements, and examined preventive steps needed to protect the site. The visit was carried out after a request was made seeking HYDRAA’s cooperation to restore the former glory of the historic tank.
Planned Measures to Protect the Historic Water Body
Ms. Kalpana Ramesh, representing Nirman NGO and overseeing the restoration works, along with officials from the Archaeology Department, briefed the HYDRAA Commissioner on the steps being taken.
The proposed measures include:
- Installation of tall fencing to prevent garbage dumping into the tank
- Development of a walking pathway around the water body
- Regular monitoring to ensure long-term protection and preservation
The officials also explained how these steps would help revive and safeguard the historic structure.
Focus on Heritage and Environmental Protection
The HYDRAA Commissioner stressed that conserving historic water bodies like Katora House is essential for preserving heritage as well as maintaining environmental balance. He assured that HYDRAA will extend all required support for the successful restoration of the site.
The restoration initiative is expected to protect the centuries-old water body from further damage and restore its historical and cultural significance.
