The HYDRAA has intensified its focus on frequent fire accidents in Hyderabad, aiming to prevent such incidents in the future through strict inspections and enforcement. HYDRAA has decided to work in close coordination with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Fire Services Department to ensure fire safety norms are strictly followed across the city.

HYDRAA Commissioner Inspects Nampally Fire Location
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Tuesday visited the Bachas Furniture Shop in Nampally, which was recently gutted in a fire accident. HYDRAA Additional Director Varlapapaiah and DFO Yagna Narayana accompanied him during the inspection.
Preliminary observations suggest that negligence by the shop management and violation of fire safety rules were the main reasons for the fire. Officials noted that large quantities of flammable furniture were stored in cellars and corridors without proper clearance, increasing the risk of fire.
Clear Guidelines Issued to Prevent Fire Accidents
The HYDRAA Commissioner issued clear instructions, including:
- Cellars must be used only for vehicle parking
- No storage of flammable materials in cellars
- No residential use or cooking allowed in cellars
- Corridors and staircases must be kept clear at all times
- Emergency exits should be clearly accessible for quick evacuation
Sprinklers and Safety Systems Made Mandatory
HYDRAA stressed the importance of installing automatic fire sprinkler systems that can control flames without human intervention. Building owners were advised to regularly check whether fire safety equipment is functional.
Joint Inspections by HYDRAA, GHMC and Fire Department
The Commissioner warned that joint inspections by HYDRAA, GHMC and the Fire Department will be conducted to verify compliance with fire safety rules. Strict action will be taken against violators.
No Compromise on Public Safety
“There will be no compromise when it comes to public safety,” Commissioner A.V. Ranganath stated, adding that enforcement will be strengthened to prevent future fire mishaps in Hyderabad.
