India Intends to Send Astronaut on Moon by 2040, Envisions Space Station by 2035

New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Indian government announced its ambitious space endeavors, stating that by 2040, India intends to send an astronaut to the moon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued directives to the space department, which encompass plans for establishing a space station by 2035.

India’s space aspirations received a significant boost when it achieved the historic feat of landing a spacecraft near the uncharted south pole of the moon in August. This success followed a failed Russian mission, making India the fourth nation to accomplish a soft landing on the moon.

Building on this achievement, India subsequently launched a rocket for solar study and is slated to conduct a crucial test later this week in preparation for its crewed space mission.

In a government statement, it was affirmed, “The Prime Minister directed that India should now aim for new and ambitious goals, including setting up the ‘Bharatiya Antariksha Station’ (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and sending the first Indian to the moon by 2040.” It further outlined that the Department of Space will chart a roadmap for moon exploration to realize this vision.

PM Modi has also urged scientists to focus on missions to explore Venus and Mars.
