Hyderabad: IPEMA–Poultry India, with the support of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), celebrated World Protein Day 2026 at the SkyKings Football Academy, underscoring the critical role of protein in daily nutrition and overall health.
Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasised that protein is vital for muscle development, immunity, child growth, and long-term well-being. They pointed out that a large segment of India’s population consumes less than the recommended daily protein intake, leading to “hidden hunger” and nutritional gaps that adversely impact productivity and health outcomes.
Industry representatives highlighted India’s strong poultry production base, noting that the country currently produces over 130 billion eggs and more than 5 million metric tonnes of broiler meat annually. With per capita egg availability crossing 95 eggs per year, poultry was described as one of the most affordable, accessible, and high-quality protein sources for Indian households.
