Iran’s Assembly Reportedly Selects New Supreme Leader, Official Announcement Delayed Due to Security and Procedural Rules
Some members believe that such a meeting could expose the country’s top leadership to potential threats, giving adversaries an opportunity to target them. Due to these security concerns, the Assembly is reportedly delaying the public announcement, even though the selection process has already been completed.

Iran’s powerful Assembly of Experts has reportedly selected a new Supreme Leader following the death of the country’s longtime leader, Ali Khamenei. However, the official announcement of the successor is being delayed due to procedural requirements and security concerns.
According to reports, senior leaders within Iran’s political and religious establishment have been working to choose a new Supreme Leader since Khamenei’s death during recent attacks carried out by Israel and the United States. The responsibility to appoint the Supreme Leader lies with the Assembly of Experts, Iran’s highest clerical governing body.
The Assembly consists of 88 Islamic scholars and religious experts who hold the authority to select and oversee the country’s Supreme Leader. Sources indicate that the Assembly met on Sunday and reached a decision regarding the new leader.
Despite the reported selection, the official declaration may take more time. According to existing regulations, all 88 members are required to be physically present for the formal confirmation process. However, several clerics have raised concerns that gathering everyone in one place under the current security situation may pose serious risks.

Meanwhile, Iranian cleric Mohsen Haidari stated that Khamenei had previously expressed a strong preference for a successor who would be firmly opposed by Iran’s adversaries. According to Haidari, Khamenei believed that the next Supreme Leader should be someone strongly disliked by Iran’s enemies, particularly the United States.
Reports also suggest that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei, is among the leading candidates and could potentially be chosen as the next Supreme Leader. However, this possibility has drawn international attention and criticism.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly voiced opposition to Mojtaba Khamenei becoming Iran’s next Supreme Leader.
As speculation continues, the world now waits for Iran’s official announcement, which will determine who will lead the country during this critical and uncertain period in the region.
