Hyderabad: Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy strongly responded to KTR’s criticism over the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, defending the Telangana government’s plan to restore the Musi River in Hyderabad.

In a video statement, the MP said that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had already clearly explained the Musi River Rejuvenation Project through a detailed presentation on March 13, highlighting the goals and benefits of the plan.
According to him, the Musi rejuvenation project aims to clean drainage water and bring water from the Godavari River to restore the Musi River ecosystem in Hyderabad.
Telangana Government’s Vision for Musi River Restoration
The Musi River Rejuvenation Project in Hyderabad is designed to transform the polluted river into a clean and sustainable water body.
Key objectives of the project include:
- Cleaning sewage and drainage entering the Musi River
- Diverting treated water outside the river system
- Bringing Godavari River water into Musi to revive its flow
- Developing riverfront areas for urban improvement
MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said the Telangana government intends to develop the Musi River on the lines of successful riverfront projects such as Sabarmati Riverfront and the Ganga riverfront developments.
KTR Accused of Spreading Misleading Statements
The Bhongir MP alleged that KTR made misleading remarks within 24 hours of the Chief Minister’s presentation on the Musi Rejuvenation Project.
He claimed that false propaganda was being spread against the project, even though the Musi river restoration plan had not been implemented during the previous BRS government’s tenure.
Kiran Kumar Reddy questioned why Musi River development did not take place during the 10-year rule of the previous government.
Reference to Sabarmati Riverfront Model
The MP said that the Telangana government aims to transform the Musi River similar to the Sabarmati Riverfront development in Ahmedabad, which significantly improved the city’s environment and infrastructure.
He urged KTR and BJP leaders to visit Ahmedabad and observe how the Sabarmati Riverfront project changed the city’s landscape and urban development.
Congress Leaders Protest at Gandhi Bhavan
Meanwhile, Congress leaders staged a protest at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, led by MLC Dr. Balmuri Venkat, over a recent controversy linked to an alleged drugs party at a farmhouse in Moinabad involving a former MLA.
During the protest:
- Congress leaders burned an effigy of KTR
- They demanded an explanation from BRS leadership regarding the reported drugs party incident
- Leaders said the incident raises serious concerns and requires clarification
