KTR Slams ‘Bulldozer Model’ on Musi River Project, Supports Musi Development Without Demolitions

BRS leader KTR criticizes the bulldozer model in the Musi River development project and calls for Musi development without demolitions or displacement of residents.

Hyderabad: BRS working president and former minister K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) strongly criticized what he called the “bulldozer model” in the Musi River development project, stating that Musi development in Hyderabad should happen without demolitions or displacement of poor residents. During a visit to areas affected by the proposed Musi River development project, KTR interacted with residents who fear losing their homes.

Speaking to locals, KTR warned that nearly 1.5 lakh houses could face demolition under the Musi River development plan, and said development should not come at the cost of people’s livelihoods.

KTR Opposes Demolitions in Musi River Development Project

During his visit, KTR expressed strong opposition to large-scale demolitions linked to the Musi River development project in Hyderabad.

He stated that:

  • Around 1.5 lakh houses may be demolished under the current proposal
  • Thousands of families fear displacement from their homes
  • Development should be done with planning and rehabilitation

KTR emphasized that Musi development without demolitions is possible if authorities adopt a people-friendly approach.

‘Development Can Happen Without Destruction’: KTR

The BRS leader argued that urban development should not lead to the destruction of communities.

According to KTR:

  • Infrastructure development can be achieved without removing residents
  • Projects must prioritize rehabilitation and planning
  • The focus should be on improving living conditions along the Musi River

He reiterated that development can happen without destruction, highlighting what he described as the earlier development model followed during the previous government.

Claims About Earlier Musi River Development

KTR pointed out that during the previous administration, parts of the Musi River stretch near Nagole were developed for about 5.5 kilometers without displacing residents.

He said this approach demonstrated that:

  • Riverfront improvement can be done without mass demolitions
  • Proper planning can protect both environment and communities
  • Development projects must remain socially responsible

KTR Criticizes Current Government’s Approach

Targeting the current administration, KTR accused the government of planning large-scale demolitions in the name of Musi River development.

He alleged that the project could lead to:

  • Forced displacement of poor families
  • Demolitions carried out under a “bulldozer model”
  • Possible misuse of the project for financial gain

The BRS leader warned that his party would strongly oppose any move to demolish homes of residents living along the Musi River.

BRS Leaders Join Visit to Musi River Affected Areas

Several senior BRS leaders accompanied KTR during his visit to areas affected by the Musi River development project in Hyderabad.

Those present included:

  • Sabitha Indra Reddy
  • Mahmood Ali
  • Talasani Srinivas Yadav
  • Several MLAs and party leaders

They interacted with residents and assured them that the party would support their concerns regarding potential demolitions.

The debate over the Musi River development project in Hyderabad continues to intensify as KTR criticizes the “bulldozer model” and calls for Musi development without demolitions. With concerns growing among residents about possible displacement, the issue is likely to remain a major political and civic discussion in the coming weeks.
