Prayagraj, India – Laurene Powell Jobs, the wife of the late former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, has recently immersed herself in the spiritual practices at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, marking a significant shift in her personal and spiritual journey. Deeply influenced by Hindu teachings, Powell Jobs has expressed her desire to embrace Sanatan Dharma and learn its rich traditions. According to her spiritual leader, Swami Kailashanand Giri, Powell Jobs was initiated into the faith on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, January 14.

Kailashanand Giri shared the news on Friday, revealing that Powell Jobs, who had reached the pinnacle of materialism, now seeks a deeper spiritual connection. “We initiated her on 14th January, at 10:10 pm, during Makar Sankranti. One year ago, she was given the name Kamala and assigned a ‘Gotra’,” said Swami Kailashanand Giri. “She wants to join Sanatan Dharma and learn its traditions through her Guru. She is composed, simple, and not arrogant. She stayed in the ‘Shivir’ for four days like a common devotee.”

Despite her prominent position in society, Powell Jobs humbly participated in the event, living like an ordinary devotee during her stay at the camp, or ‘Shivir’. She was accompanied by around 50 personal staff members who traveled with her in two large planes. Reports indicate that she adheres to a strict vegetarian diet and refrains from eating garlic or onion, aligning with the spiritual practices she is now embracing.
A Sacred Gathering at the Triveni Sangam
The Maha Kumbh Mela, which commenced on Monday, is one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings. Devotees from all across India and abroad gathered to participate in the first Amrit Snan (sacred dip) on Makar Sankranti. The atmosphere around the Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers meet, was filled with devotion as pilgrims from various parts of the world came together to take part in the sacred ritual.
