LPG Supply Shortage and Price Hike Push Thousands of Hyderabad Auto Drivers into Crisis

Hyderabad: A shortage of LPG supply and the sudden rise in fuel prices have made life increasingly difficult for auto-rickshaw drivers in Hyderabad, pushing thousands of families into financial distress.

The reduction in LPG supply, along with continuous price hikes, has created serious challenges for auto drivers who depend on gas-powered vehicles for their daily livelihood. Drivers across various parts of the city are reportedly forced to wait for hours at fuel stations to refill their LPG cylinders.

At several filling stations, “No Stock” boards have been displayed, leaving drivers with no option but to move from one station to another in search of fuel. Many drivers say that half of their day is spent simply looking for LPG, which prevents them from picking up passengers and significantly reduces their daily income.

Auto drivers also complain that while LPG prices continue to rise with each passing day, passengers still expect to travel at the old fares. Attempts to increase fares often lead to arguments between drivers and commuters, which has now become a daily occurrence.

According to drivers, it has become nearly impossible to manage their finances with the current earnings. They say their income is no longer sufficient to cover the auto loan installments, rising fuel costs, and household expenses.

The ongoing crisis has placed immense mental stress on these workers, many of whom belong to poor and middle-class families. Several drivers have warned that if the situation continues, they may be forced to stop operating their autos altogether, as the remaining income after fuel expenses is not even enough to support their families.

Auto drivers have urged the government to take immediate steps to regulate LPG prices and restore adequate supply so that their livelihoods can be protected.
