Hyderabad: In a major drug bust, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized a huge quantity of foreign-origin drugs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, on Saturday afternoon.

The seizure was made during the inspection of baggage belonging to passengers who arrived from Bangkok. During the checks, DRI officials recovered 27 kilograms of hydroponic cannabis, estimated to be worth ₹9.5 crore in the international market.

The contraband was concealed inside trolley bags and was being smuggled into the country when the officials intercepted the passengers. The DRI arrested seven persons in connection with the case — four passengers who arrived from abroad and three others who had come to receive and transport the drugs.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the larger network involved in the smuggling operation, officials said.
