Hyderabad: In a serious drunken driving incident in Mehdipatnam, police arrested a man after he allegedly threatened officers with a knife and tried to escape near NMDC. The accused, identified as Rizwan, a resident of Mirchowk, was stopped by Mehdipatnam police during a routine check, leading to a tense situation that drew immediate police response.

Drunken Driving Check Turns Violent

According to police, Rizwan was intercepted near NMDC, Mehdipatnam, on suspicion of drunken driving. During the check, he allegedly obstructed police officers and behaved aggressively. When officers attempted to restrain him, the accused reportedly pulled out a knife and fled the scene.

Chase Ends at Ansari Complex, Pochamma Basti

Police said the accused ran into Pochamma Basti and entered Ansari Complex, where he locked himself inside a flat to evade arrest. Mehdipatnam police cordoned off the area and initiated a cautious operation to bring the situation under control.

Police Counsel Accused, Bring Him Out Safely

After sustained efforts and dialogue, police counselled Rizwan and convinced him to come out. He was then taken into custody and shifted to Mehdipatnam Police Station for further action. No injuries were reported during the operation.

Case Registered, Investigation Underway

Police have registered a case related to drunken driving, obstruction of duty, and criminal intimidation, and an investigation is ongoing to ascertain further details. Officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone endangering public safety or threatening law enforcement personnel.

Police once again urged motorists to avoid drunk driving and cooperate with officers during checks, stressing that such behaviour puts lives at risk and invites severe legal consequences.
