Municipal Elections: Mayor and Chairperson Reservations Finalised, 50% Posts Reserved for Women

Ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, the Telangana government has finalised reservations for Mayor and Municipal Chairperson posts across the state. Municipal Administration Director Sridevi on Saturday released the final reservation list.

Hyderabad: Ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, the Telangana government has finalised reservations for Mayor and Municipal Chairperson posts across the state. Municipal Administration Director Sridevi on Saturday released the final reservation list.

Officials said that SC and ST reservations were finalised first, followed by allocation of 50 per cent of posts to women through a lottery system.

Out of the 10 municipal corporations in the state, one post each has been reserved for SC and ST categories, three posts for BC Women, and five posts under the General category.

The corporation-wise reservation details are as follows:

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) — Women (General)

Nalgonda — Women (General)

Mahabubnagar — Women (BC)

Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) — Unreserved

Karimnagar — BC (General)

Khammam — Women (General)

Nizamabad — Women (General)

Mancherial — BC (General)

Kothagudem — ST (General)

Ramagundam — SC (General)

For the 121 municipalities in the state, Chairperson reservations have also been finalised. Of these:

ST: 5 posts

SC: 15 posts

BC: 38 posts

BC Women: 19 posts

The remaining municipalities fall under the General category.

Officials said the reservation policy aims to ensure effective representation of women and marginalised communities in urban local governance.
