New Wave of Drone and Missile Attacks in Arab Countries After Pezeshkian’s Apology; Saudi Arabia Warns Iran of Possible Retaliation

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense also confirmed early Sunday that its air defense systems had intercepted at least 21 drones.

Riyadh: Just a day after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized to neighboring countries, a fresh wave of drone and missile attacks was reported early Sunday across several Gulf states, further escalating tensions in the region.

The Kuwaiti military stated that the fuel storage area of Kuwait International Airport was targeted by what it described as a “wave of hostile drones.” According to officials, air defense systems intercepted several drones and ballistic missiles, but falling debris during the interception caused damage to some civilian structures.

State media reported that a drone strike also affected the building of the Public Institution for Social Security. Images circulating on social media showed flames rising from the approximately 22-storey building. However, no casualties have been reported from that incident. Meanwhile, two personnel from Kuwait’s border security forces were killed while on duty early Sunday morning, though it remains unclear whether their deaths were directly related to the attacks on the airport and government facility.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense also confirmed early Sunday that its air defense systems had intercepted at least 21 drones. In Bahrain, the Interior Ministry said missile fragments fell on a university building, damaging the structure and injuring three people. A seawater desalination plant in the country was also reported to have suffered damage.

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates said that the country’s air defense systems were responding to a potential missile threat early Sunday morning.

The attacks came just a day after President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed regret to Gulf nations over last week’s drone and missile strikes on American bases in the region. He stated that Iran would not target neighboring countries unless it was attacked first. Later, the presidential office clarified that his statement meant Iran would refrain from attacking regional countries if they did not cooperate with the United States in strikes against Iran.
