“No Bag Day” on 4th Saturday of every month; here’re the details about what students will do
Hyderabad: In an effort to make learning more enjoyable and reduce the burden on students, the School Education department in Telangana has designated the fourth Saturday of every month as “No Bag Day” in all schools. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by incorporating various engaging activities.
On these bagless days, students will participate in a wide range of activities both inside and outside the classroom. Field visits to museums, historical sites, and gram panchayats will be organized, allowing students to explore and learn from real-world experiences. Indoor activities such as science experiments, doodling, model assembly, and model elections will also be included to stimulate creativity and engagement.
The State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT), a branch of the School Education department, has developed a handout outlining ten bagless days for students from Class I to X. The primary section will have three sessions: show time, fun station, and creative circle. Class I and II students will be encouraged to share about their families, imitate family members, and create sketches of family members to enhance their communication skills and foster creativity.
For students in Class III to V, activity-based learning will focus on the theme of livelihood. They will be asked to discuss and demonstrate their preferred occupations, as well as draw the tools associated with those professions.
Secondary level students (Class VI to X) will participate in a range of experiential learning activities. These include field visits to post offices, construction sites, and ration shops, as well as engaging in a family budget survey, model assembly, model elections, and financial transactions. A total of 28 activity-based learning concepts have been designed for this age group.
The main objective of this initiative is to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. By exposing students to various work skills and real-life experiences, they will gain valuable insights to make informed decisions about their future careers. For example, during a visit to the post office, students will have the opportunity to interview the postmaster, postman, and householders to learn about different career opportunities.
Additionally, secondary school students will be introduced to the basics of artificial intelligence and its applications, providing them with knowledge about emerging technologies and potential career paths. This initiative seeks to make learning more interactive, engaging, and relevant to the rapidly changing world.
Overall, the implementation of “No Bag Day” in Telangana schools aims to create a more enjoyable and holistic learning experience for students, enabling them to develop crucial skills and explore diverse career options.
