Old City Tense as Waqf Bill Clears Parliament – Security Tightened at Key Spots

Hyderabad: The atmosphere in Hyderabad’s Old City turned tense on Friday following the passage of the controversial Waqf Bill in both Houses of Parliament. The bill, which has now reached the Rashtrapati Bhavan for presidential assent, was backed by a majority of lawmakers in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, with several proposed amendments receiving support.

Amid growing unease, authorities have ramped up security in sensitive and hyper-sensitive zones, especially around Charminar and Mecca Masjid. High-ranking police officials, including Joint CP Vikram Singh Mann, South Zone DCP Sneha Mehra, and Additional DCP Javed, inspected the areas and reviewed the preparedness.

Based on intelligence reports from the Special Branch, a significant police force has been deployed ahead of Friday prayers. Vehicles and personnel have been kept on standby to respond to any potential unrest or protests.

As a precautionary measure, law enforcement is on high alert to prevent any escalation and ensure peace in the city’s most vulnerable neighborhoods.
