Hyderabad: Opposition Hails SC Stay on 400-Acre Kancha Gachibowli Land Development

Both parties have been strongly opposing the Telangana government’s plan to develop IT infrastructure on the land.

SC Orders Immediate Halt to Activities
On Thursday, the Supreme Court ordered that “no activity of any sort,” except for the protection of trees, should be carried out on the land. A bench comprising Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih expressed concern over the situation, calling the tree felling in the area a “very serious matter.” The court cited an interim report from the Telangana High Court registrar, describing the environmental damage as “alarming.”
Telangana BJP Chief Applauds the Verdict
Telangana BJP chief and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy welcomed the Supreme Court’s stay, stating,
“We welcome the verdict of the Honorable Supreme Court imposing a stay on the environmental destruction being carried out by the Telangana government in the Kancha Gachibowli area of Hyderabad.”
He also credited the student protests for influencing the court’s decision and demanded the unconditional release of any arrested students. Reddy urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s government to comply with the SC directive.
KTR Calls It a Victory for Students and Activists
BRS Working President K T Rama Rao took to ‘X’ to celebrate the verdict, calling it a major victory for the University of Hyderabad students.
“Thanks to all the activists, celebrities, environmentalists, media, and social media friends who have supported this noble cause,” he said, acknowledging the efforts of various groups that opposed the land development plan.
