Balmoor Venkat has submitted a detailed written complaint to the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Additional DGP, naming senior political leaders K. T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao. The complaint accuses them of making public statements that could undermine the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the phone tapping controversy.
Allegations of Pressure on SIT Officers
According to the complaint, both leaders allegedly issued remarks on public platforms warning that officials would be “dealt with” once their party returned to power. Balmoor Venkat has argued that such statements fall within the scope of criminal intimidation under law.
He has further stated that these remarks may not only affect the morale of SIT officers but could also discourage potential witnesses from cooperating freely with the investigation.
‘Investigations Must Run Without Political Threats’
The MLC has stressed that if any individual believes they are innocent, the correct course is to present their defence before the SIT, rather than issuing statements outside the legal framework.
Balmoor Venkat noted that adopting one stance before investigators and a completely different tone in public raises serious doubts about intent and damages the credibility of the investigation process.
Call for Equal Application of Law
Emphasising institutional independence, the MLC said that decisions in the phone tapping case must be taken solely by investigating authorities, not by political leaders.
“If wrongdoing is established, the law must take its course — regardless of position or influence,” he asserted in his submission.
On this basis, Balmoor Venkat has sought strict legal action, including the possibility of arrest, against those found to be obstructing the probe, so that the investigation can reach its logical conclusion without fear or pressure.
This complaint has added a new dimension to the Telangana phone tapping case, shifting focus from alleged surveillance to concerns about political interference in criminal investigations.
The coming days are expected to reveal whether law enforcement agencies take cognisance of the allegations and what impact this move may have on the direction and pace of the SIT probe.
For many observers, the case has now become a broader test of rule of law, institutional autonomy, and accountability in the state.
