Hyderabad: The Plastindia Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Telangana and Switcheko, on Saturday flagged off the ‘Swachhata Yatra’ at T-Hub (The Pinnacle), Hyderabad, marking a major grassroots initiative to promote sustainability and the circular economy.
The highlight of the campaign is the “Sustainability on Wheels” mobile recycling truck — a first-of-its-kind unit equipped to process plastics, cardboard, e-waste, metal cans and textiles while on the move. Over the next 35 days, the vehicle will travel across 25 locations on its journey to New Delhi, recycling nearly 40,000 kg of waste and demonstrating the 6Rs of sustainability — Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle.
The initiative also offered a preview of PLASTINDIA 2026, one of the world’s largest plastics exhibitions, scheduled to be held from February 5 to 10, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, where the Sustainability on Wheels unit will be showcased.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravish Kamath, President of Plastindia Foundation, said the Yatra reflects the industry’s commitment to tackling littering and promoting recycling. He emphasised that plastic, when managed responsibly, is a valuable resource.
Alok Tibrewala, Chairman–NEC, PLASTINDIA 2026, said the campaign symbolises India’s future-ready and environmentally conscious plastics industry. Akshay Deshpande, Founder and CEO of Switcheko, highlighted the need to move from discussion to action by taking recycling technology directly to communities.
As part of its outreach programme, the campaign will conduct live recycling demonstrations, train over 1,000 individuals in waste resource management, and undertake daily plogging drives covering nearly 45 km.
The Swachhata Yatra will culminate in New Delhi on February 15, 2026, reinforcing the plastics industry’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and environmental responsibility.
