Prophet Remark Row: Jamiat Ulama moves Supreme Court against vengeful demolitions

New Delhi: Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind has moved the Supreme Court seeking directions to Uttar Pradesh government to ensure no further demolitions are carried out in the state without following due process.

According to Live Law, Jamiat has sought directions to initiate action against officials responsible for the houses demolished. State administration has demolition houses of Muslims accusing them of violating rule of law. The application has been filed through Advocate Kabir Dixit and Advocate Sarim Naved.

Stating that some objectionable and offensive remarks were made by two political leaders a few days ago, which led to communal tension in numerous parts of the country, the applicant urged to make sure that demolition exercise of any nature must be carried out strictly in accordance with applicable laws.

The public interest litigation petition (PIL) claimed that adoption of such extra-legal measures is clearly in violation of the principles of natural justice.
