Doha: Authorities in Qatar have announced the likely date for Eid al-Fitr based on astronomical calculations, indicating that the first day of Shawwal 1447 AH is expected to fall on Friday, March 20, 2026.
According to the Qatar Calendar House, the Shawwal moon is predicted to be born at 4:24 a.m. on Thursday, March 19. As a result, the crescent is unlikely to be visible in the skies of Qatar on the evening of Wednesday, March 18.

Based on these calculations, the holy month of Ramadan is expected to conclude on March 19, with Eid celebrations beginning the following day.
However, officials clarified that while astronomical data provides an indication, the final and official announcement of Eid will be made by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) Qatar through its moon-sighting committee, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Meanwhile, public holidays for Eid are expected to begin on March 20, allowing residents to celebrate the festival. Earlier, the Amiri Diwan Qatar had already announced a holiday schedule for government institutions starting from March 17 to facilitate Eid preparations.
Muslims across Qatar, like millions around the world, are eagerly awaiting the festival, which marks the end of Ramadan with prayers, family gatherings, and celebrations.
