He described Deepak as a “living symbol of a shop of love in the marketplace of hate”, stating that this is what troubles those who thrive on fear and division.
Rahul Gandhi said India needs more people like Deepak—those who do not bow down, do not fear threats, and stand firmly with constitutional principles.
Kotdwar Incident and Bajrang Dal Protest
The incident took place in Kotdwar, where Mohammed Deepak defended an elderly Muslim shopkeeper who was allegedly being harassed by Bajrang Dal members. After a video of Deepak saying “My name is Mohammed Deepak” went viral, Bajrang Dal members allegedly gathered in large numbers outside his house and gym, raising communal slogans and staging protests.
Deepak later alleged that the situation created fear and insecurity for him and his family.
Rahul Gandhi Targets BJP and Sangh Parivar
Without naming individuals, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP and the Sangh Parivar of deliberately spreading hate and fear in society. He said that such forces are poisoning India’s social fabric and economy to keep the country divided so that a few can continue to rule through fear.
He also alleged that the Uttarakhand BJP government was siding with anti-social elements who are intimidating ordinary citizens instead of protecting them.
‘No Development Without Peace’
Rahul Gandhi warned that no country can move forward in an atmosphere of hate, fear, and anarchy. He said that without peace and harmony, development remains nothing more than an empty slogan.
Calling Deepak a “lion-hearted warrior,” Rahul Gandhi assured him of support and urged him not to be afraid, saying that standing with the Constitution is the strongest form of patriotism.
