Hyderabad: Telangana has recorded a significant surge in electricity consumption due to rising temperatures and increased agricultural activity during the ongoing rabi crop season. The growing demand from agricultural, domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors has pushed the state’s power consumption to new highs.

According to officials, the total electricity demand in the state reached 18,139 megawatts on March 3, marking a new record for Telangana.

Within the jurisdiction of the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), the peak power demand on Friday was recorded at 11,129 megawatts, compared to 10,310 megawatts on the same day last year, reflecting a substantial increase.

Electricity consumption has also risen sharply in Greater Hyderabad and several districts across the state. In Hyderabad alone, the maximum demand reached 4,421 megawatts on March 3.

In view of the rising power demand, TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Jitish V. Patil assured that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers. He has instructed field officials to closely monitor the load on 33 kV and 11 kV feeders, as well as power transformers at substations, around the clock.

The state government aims to ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply during this crucial period of summer and agricultural activity so that both the public and farmers do not face any inconvenience.
