Role of Muslims in formation of separate state recalled on Telangana Formation Day
Historic Telangana Garjana Rally of Feb 2010 in Hyderabad & huge rallies by JIH across Telangana are shining evidence of support to Telangana Movement
Hyderabad: On the occasion of Telangana Formation Day on June 2, activists and individuals recalled the role of Muslim organisations and their demand for separate statehood.
Pointing out that several members of the socio-religious organisation had immersed themselves in the movement, Mohammed Ziauddin Nayyar, president, Majlis-e-Tameer-e-Millat claimed that some of them even wrote poetry during the movement. He further asserted that the organisation was also proactive during the Telangana Agitation of 1969.
Role of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, also a socio-religious organisation was also acknowledged. Voicing its support for the creation of Telangana, between 2007 and 2008, the organisation started to actively support the formation of Telangana.
‘“We had formed a committee with the current president of our jamaat as its head. This committee studied deeply the issues faced by the Telangana region. I must stress that this was not looked at as a Muslim issue, but as a socio-economic issue and that of backwardness. We looked at the deprivation using data and reports. We then gave our support to the formation of the State.” The Hindu quoted a senior member of the organisation as saying.
He also recalled that in February 2010, the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind organised a Telangana Garjana at the Nizam College Grounds which was attended by a massive gathering.
