Salman Khan Summoned by Court in Pan Masala Ad Case, Forensic Test Ordered

Salman Khan asked to appear before Kota Consumer Court in pan masala ad case. Court orders forensic test of his signature; next hearing scheduled for January 20.

Hyderabad: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been directed to appear in person before the Kota District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in connection with a case related to a pan masala advertisement. The court has also ordered a forensic examination of his signature, intensifying the legal scrutiny around the controversial advertisement.

Court Orders Forensic Verification of Salman Khan’s Signature

The consumer court issued the order after objections were raised over the authenticity of Salman Khan’s signature on documents submitted to the court, including the power of attorney and written reply.

The complainant, BJP leader and advocate Indramohan Singh Honey, alleged that the signatures filed on behalf of the actor were not genuine and differed from those recorded earlier during court proceedings and incarceration in Jodhpur.

Accepting the objection, the court directed that the signatures be examined by a state-authorised agency or a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).

Salman Khan Asked to Appear on January 20

The court has instructed Salman Khan to:

  • Appear personally on January 20
  • Submit relevant documents
  • Appear along with advocate R.C. Choubey, the notary who authenticated the documents on his behalf

The order was passed under:

  • Section 38(9)(d) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019
  • Section 73(2) of the Indian Evidence Act

Complaint Linked to Pan Masala Advertisement

The petition was filed in the Kota Consumer Court against Salman Khan and Rajshree Pan Masala, alleging misleading advertising.

The complainant argued that the advertisement promotes “saffron-infused cardamom”, which he claimed is misleading, as saffron cannot realistically be added to a low-cost pan masala pouch.

It was further alleged that:

  • Such advertisements mislead consumers
  • Youth are especially influenced
  • Pan masala consumption poses serious health risks

Salman Khan Denies Allegations

In his response filed on November 27, Salman Khan described the complaint as baseless, arguing that any action should fall under the jurisdiction of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA).

His legal team maintained that:

  • The advertisement is for silver-coated cardamom, not saffron-infused pan masala
  • All allegations are false and misleading

On December 9, Salman Khan again denied the claims, stating that the signatures are genuine and match those on his PAN card and passport, calling the objections frivolous and legally untenable.

Next Hearing on January 20

The case will now come up for hearing on January 20, when the consumer court will review:

  • The forensic examination process
  • Salman Khan’s personal appearance
  • Further legal proceedings in the pan masala advertisement case

The matter has drawn nationwide attention due to its implications for celebrity endorsements and consumer protection laws.
