Sankranti Travel Rush: Hyderabad–Vijayawada Highway Choked, Long Queues at Bus Stands

Sankranti travel rush peaks in Hyderabad as Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway sees heavy traffic and bus stands face massive crowds. Long queues reported at toll plazas and RTC bus stops.

Hyderabad Sankranti travel rush has peaked as thousands of people left the city to celebrate the festival in their native villages. Since early Saturday morning, roads, highways, and bus stations in Hyderabad have witnessed massive crowds, causing traffic congestion and travel delays.

Hyderabad–Vijayawada Highway Sees Heavy Traffic

With Sankranti holidays beginning, vehicular movement on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway increased sharply. A long line of vehicles was seen moving towards Andhra Pradesh, leading to slow traffic flow.

Major congestion was reported at:

  • Choutuppal toll plaza
  • Pantangi toll plaza

Motorists heading out of Hyderabad faced long waiting times, especially during the morning hours.

Police Suggest Alternative Routes for Commuters

Due to the heavy traffic on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway, police officials advised travelers to take alternative routes.
People traveling towards Guntur and Ongole have been suggested to use the Sagar Highway to avoid congestion and save time.

Traffic police teams are closely monitoring the situation and regulating vehicle movement near toll plazas.

Bus Stands Witness Huge Rush Ahead of Sankranti

Along with highways, public transport hubs also experienced heavy crowds. A significant rush was reported at:

  • MGBS (Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station)
  • JBS (Jubilee Bus Station)
  • Uppal
  • LB Nagar
  • Tarnaka junction

Passengers were seen standing in long queues waiting for buses to their hometowns.

RTC Bus Shortage Adds to Passenger Woes

Despite the festive rush, commuters complained that RTC buses were not sufficient to handle the crowd. Many passengers said they had to wait for more than one to one-and-a-half hours to get a bus.

Some travelers alleged that ₹50 extra was being charged in the name of special buses, adding to their difficulties during the Sankranti travel rush.

Sankranti Rush Continues in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Sankranti travel rush is expected to continue over the next few days as more families head to villages. Authorities have urged travelers to plan journeys carefully, follow traffic advisories, and use alternate routes where possible.
